There are approximately 45,000 orchid species in the world, with over 4000 in Ecuador, many of which are endemic -- found only there. Her travels include eco-volunteering at several orchid reserves, stays at Ecuagenera, and orchid viewing in native habitats including cloud forests, Amazonia, high paramo, dry lowlands, and the Galapagos. Understanding where and how different species grow in nature is key to more successful growing strategies. Jean is an AOS accredited judge, travels extensively, and especially enjoys learning about orchids in their native habitats regionally and worldwide.
